Give a Sit dog training is a Positive Reinforcement & force free, in-home dog training service. With 3 main courses (puppy prep, basic and advanced obedience) and behavior adjustment training (BAT), there’s sure to be a course that fits your specific needs.

Elle, the owner and lead trainer, is certified by the CCPDT (Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers), so rest assure you’re receiving the highest standard of dog training. Elle is also certified by Pet Tech in pet CPR First Aid and FearFree certified by FearFreePets.

Give a Sit dog training focuses heavily on bridging the communication gap, creating mutual communication between human and dog. Teaching cues that allow owners to navigate their dogs decisions and set boundaries for optimal good behaviors.

“Obedience is not about having a robotic dog, rather teaching a dog to make good decisions with and without guidance.”

The Dog Training industry is unregulated, so anyone can say they are a dog trainer and charge for their services. Behavior is complex and trainers who choose to get certified have to complete rigorous testing to show they understand canine behavior, learning theory, body language, how dogs learn and so much more. Give a Sit’s lead trainer Elle has been tested by the industry-leading CCPDT to become a qualified professional dog trainer, FearFreePets to be qualified to work on fear-based behaviors during vet and grooming appointments alongside in-home cooperative care, and the AKC to become an evaluator and PetTech for canine CPR and First Aid. She must complete yearly Continued Education Units to maintain her titles, which means she has the most up-to-date education a dog trainer can have!

We teach Communication

Forget the long-debunked Alpha theory or the idea you need to be the leader of the pack. Having a dog is a guardianship role in which it’s our responsibility to teach them about the world they have been placed into and most importantly to make their world a safe place. Communication is the two-way street to helping a dog navigate the strange world of humans. Give A Sit is here to teach guardians what their dog is trying to tell them, with an emphasis on learning canine body language. We teach guardians how to help their dogs overcome fear, stress, or lack of enrichment that often manifests as “bad behavior”. Trainers at Give A Sit have a solid science-based education in canine behavior and the love of understanding what drives it. Give A Sit trainers will always put your dog’s physical and emotional welfare first!

“In a constantly evolving profession like dog training, its vital trainers work together harmoniously to learn and grow from one another. “ Elle CPDT-KA FFCP

We are Force-Free! Reward Based training is how we train.

Over the past decade, dog training has changed from adverse training (shock collars, prong collars, and physical punishment) to more proactive, positive reinforcement training. Science has shown positive reinforcement training builds a closer bond between humans and dogs, a strong desire to listen and please, and an overall happier relationship.

We come to you

Learning in home is one of the most effective ways to make sure the needs of individual dogs are met. Setting up obedience in the home is the first and most realistic place a dog should learn. Once students have completed Basic Obedience in the home, they may choose to take advanced obedience which focuses heavily on obedience outside of the home where distractions are out of our control. Advanced classes are held to the same standards as the Canine Good Citizen certification, assuring owners their dog will be the best canine citizen among other people, dogs, and places such as the vets and groomers.

We offer specific behavior adjustment training

The BAT, behavior adjustment training, and classes are made for those tuff, specific behavior problems. Separation anxiety, leash reactivity, resource guarding, and fear-based aggression are just a few of the behaviors Give a Sit can help with. These classes are done as needed, ensuring dogs and humans have ample time to practice assigned exercises.
